About Omega-3 Centre
The Omega-3 Centre operates as a centre of excellence in Omega-3 fatty acids for Australia and New Zealand. Our primary focus is on communicating the health benefits of long chain Omega-3s. We help translate the science of Omega-3s to actions.

The Omega-3 Centre is a group of committed organisations and individuals working together to improve the health status of the community by:
- Promoting optimal intakes of long chain Omega-3s
- Providing authoritative evidence-based advice
- Supporting the development of a wider range of sources of long chain Omega-3s for the human diet
- Facilitating and promoting research and development in this area

Our activities
The Omega-3 Centre effectively communicates the health benefits of Omega-3s and where to find them and de-mystifies Omega-3s by translating the scientific evidence for these important nutrients.
Regulatory affairs
Food Regulations for Australia & New Zealand
Food regulations are set by Foods Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). Currently there are conditions for making omega-3 nutrition claims, which are pointed out in Standard 1.2.8 of the Food Standards Code.
In summary, an omega-3 nutrition claim can be made on products which contain:
- 200 mg alpha-linolenic acid per serving; or
- 30 mg total EPA and DHA per serving.
