2006

The inaugural Omega-3 Symposium linked the science of Omega-3s to potential claims for Omega-3 containing foods. It was convened by The Omega-3 Centre and ILSI Australasia.

On 31 October marketers, nutritionists, regulators and scientists met at the State Library of Victoria Theatrette in Melbourne to discuss:

Long Chain Omega-3s - the science, recommendations for intake and making general level health claims

The objectives of the Symposium were:

To discuss the science for long chain Omega-3s, their roles in the body and recommendations for intake. To progress understanding of the issues and processes involved in the substantiation of general level health claims

The Program:

Professor Paul Nestel, President, ILSI Australasia welcomed delegates and introduced
Ms Wendy Morgan, Executive Director of the new Omega-3 Centre, who introduced the audience to Omega-3 fatty acids and the new Centre.
